Kayes, december 3rd 2020 : Under the high patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Mines, Energy and Water, Mr. Lamine Seydou Traoré, Albatros Energy Mali SA initiated this afternoon the laying of the foundation stone of a hydrocarbon analysis laboratory. This laboratory will be a first in West Africa. This regional center of excellence will enable economic operators in Mali and the sub-region to carry out quality and compliance tests on their petroleum products. Until then, these tests were only possible outside the African continent.

The laboratory will have an area of 340 m2 and will allow around forty tests to be carried out in accordance with international standards (ISO and ASTM) on petroleum products such as HFO (heavy fuel oil) and LFO (diesel fuel). In a second phase, it will be possible to test Jet fuel (Kerosene) and LNG (Liquefied natural gas).

This pioneering project in West Africa found its financing through the equity of Albatros Energy Mali SA and a donation from one of its international financial partners. The total cost of this investment amounts to FCFA 518 million.

The construction period of the laboratory will extend over seven (7) months from this date. It will be operational on July 1, 2021 to welcome its mining customers, importers of petroleum products, thermal power plant operators and others.

In order to preserve the independence of this laboratory, Albatros Energy Mali SA will outsource management and operations to an internationally renowned laboratory operator.
